Peke's booking terms

Last updated 23 April 2026. These terms apply to every booking made through Peke.

1. What Peke is

Peke is a marketplace that connects renters with independent car-rental companies in Rwanda. When you book a car on Peke, your rental agreement is between you and the company that owns the car. Peke facilitates the booking, collects the confirmation fee on the company's behalf, and handles the receipt you are reading.

Peke is not the owner of the vehicles listed on the platform and is not a party to the rental agreement itself. We charge the rental company a service commission on each completed booking; this commission is already included in the price you see.

2. Booking and confirmation

When you submit a booking request, you pay a confirmation fee (typically 20% of the total, set by each company on their listing). This fee holds the car for the dates you selected and makes your booking official once the company accepts.

The company has up to 24 hours to accept or decline your booking. If they decline, the confirmation fee is refunded in full to the payment method you used.

The remaining balance is due at pickup and is paid directly to the rental company.

3. Payment methods

Confirmation fees are paid on Peke using Rwandan mobile money — MTN Mobile Money or Airtel Money. Card payments are not supported at this time.

The balance at pickup is agreed with the rental company. Most companies accept cash (RWF), MTN MoMo, or Airtel Money. Ask the company in advance if you need a different arrangement.

All amounts on Peke are shown in Rwandan francs (RWF) and are inclusive of any applicable taxes.

4. Pickup and return

At pickup, bring a valid driver's license and the booking reference shown on your receipt. The rental company may also ask for a national ID or passport to verify your identity.

Walk around the car with the company's representative before you drive off. Note any existing scratches, dents, or mechanical concerns. The condition recorded at pickup is what you will be held to at return.

Return the car on the date and at the location agreed on your booking, with a fuel level at least equal to what it had at pickup. Late returns may incur an extra-day charge at the company's discretion.

5. Cancellations and refunds

  • If you cancel at least 48 hours before pickup, the confirmation fee is fully refunded.
  • If you cancel within 48 hours of pickup, the confirmation fee is non-refundable.
  • If you do not show up at pickup without notice, the confirmation fee is non-refundable and the booking is closed.
  • If the rental company cancels for any reason, you receive a full refund of the confirmation fee.

Refunds are returned to the original payment method within 5 business days. If you do not see a refund after that, contact us with your booking reference.

6. Your responsibilities as a renter

  • Only you — the person named on the booking — may drive the car, unless the rental company has approved an additional driver in writing.
  • Use the car lawfully. No racing, off-roading beyond the roads the company has approved, or use for paid passenger transport.
  • Do not smoke in the car. Cleaning fees may apply.
  • Pay any traffic fines, parking tickets, or tolls incurred during your rental.

Damage to the car caused during your rental is your responsibility, up to the limits set out in the company's rental agreement. Ask the company about their insurance and damage-waiver options before pickup.

7. Peke's role and liability

Because Peke is a marketplace, we do not guarantee the condition of the car, the behaviour of the rental company, or the availability of any specific vehicle. We do our best to vet the companies listed on the platform, and we take reports of bad experiences seriously.

If something goes wrong during your rental — the car is not as described, the company is unresponsive, you are charged something unexpected — contact us on WhatsApp at +250 783 790 515. We will mediate and, where appropriate, issue a refund of the confirmation fee.

8. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your booking is the one published on the date you confirmed the booking. The receipt PDF links back to the current version, so always check the "Last updated" date at the top of this page if you are unsure.
